Blues will sit down with Argentine striker's agents next week as Hiddink ditches Falco - all the latest Chelsea transfer news and gossip
The Blues are closing in on their first signing of the January window after a meeting was set up between Chelsea and the representatives of Ezequiel Lavezzi. That's according to the Daily Star, which says that the two parties hope to "negotiate a deal for the Argentine winger".
Taking its cue from Italian sources, the Star adds that the Blues will sit down with Alejandro Mazzoni, the player's agent, next week and hopefully secure his release from Paris Saint-Germain.
The South American's contract expires in June but Chelsea are cautiously optimistic that PSG will sell this month so that he doesn't leave on a free transfer at the end of the season. That would also strengthen their strikeforce, which so far has failed to fire in their disastrous start to the season.
Meanwhile to no-one's great surprise Radamel Falcao "has flown back to Monaco with Chelsea set to cancel his loan deal". Rumours have been as rife as hamstring injuries at Anfield that the Colombian's days at the Bridge were numbered, and according to Talksport the frontman could terminate his time in London in the next few days.
French media say that Falcao has returned to Monaco to discuss his next step with his parent club but it's believed the Ligue 1 side "are happy to welcome the 29-year-old back into the fold" after forking out £50m to bring him from Atletico Madrid in 2013.
Finally, The Sun says Chelsea haven't given up on Everton defender John Stones, but they are prepared to wait until the summer, when the paper says Blues owner Roman Abramovich will be "happy to stump up £40m" for the 21-year-old centre-back.
